Wray Higgins Wright, age 75, long time resident of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Thursday, May 11, at his residence.
Wray was born June 5, 1941 in Maury County, the son of the late Clarence Thomas Wright and Nell Higgins Wright. On December 5, 1964, he married Sondra Spears Wright, and they enjoyed 52 years together.
Wray was a dedicated member of Parkway Baptist Church. He served as a member of the trustee board for over 30 years. He was a very friendly and caring person who helped many people over the years. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Wray was the owner & operator of Affordable Home Improvement for many years and was partners with Brawner Auto Electric. He retired from Stauffer and Avecia after 30 years of employment and was the business manager for the Local 912 Union.
Wray was a volunteer fireman with the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department and reserve officer with the Mt. Pleasant Police Department for 11 years. He was a reserve sheriff’s deputy under Sheriff Wade Matheny for eight years. He loved police work and serving his community.
Wray was an avid sports fan. He especially followed the Tennessee Volunteers, traveling coast to coast to watch them play for many years. He loved to travel with 2 of his great-nieces, Krystal and Candis, who played softball for MTSU. He also played softball himself for many years and coached the Stauffer Men’s’ Softball team. He sponsored many girls softball teams under Affordable Home Improvement.
Besides sports, he liked to watch westerns, COPS and several other police shows on TV. His favorite past time however was hanging out with his friends at Mt. Pleasant Sales.
Survivors include his wife, Sondra, of Mt. Pleasant; sisters, Patty (Jim T.) Hamilton of Columbia and Monty Davis of Old Hickory; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayde Kelley of Columbia, Delmer Lovett of Mt. Pleasant, Ronnie (Shirley) Spears of Mt. Pleasant, Kay Spears of Mt. Pleasant, James Ray Boshers of Mt. Pleasant, Wilma Chatman of Mt. Pleasant and Diane (Cliff) Lamb of Unionville; several nieces and nephews, Vicky (Steve) Hazard, Tommy (Sandra) Goetz, Cheyenne (Jennifer) McNeese, Phyllis Simmons, Randy Wright, Rhenda Coats, Connie Barnhill, Laurie Wright, Donna Grooms, Beth Lovett, Marty Lovett, Leigh Ann (Chad) Fletcher and many other nieces and nephews along with his special little buddies, Sadie Raine, Ella Rose, Jon Kolbi and Jackson and Macey. In addition to his parents, Wray was preceded in death by one son, Timothy Wray Wright; brothers, Tommy, Larry, Al Gene and Harry Wright; sisters, Kathy Kelley and Alice Lovett; sister-in—law, Ella Wright; brother-in-law, Denny Davis; nephews, Deno Wright and Mike Goetz and a special niece, Tammy Hemphill.
Funeral services for Wray will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at Parkway Baptist Church with Pastor and friend, Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.
The family will visit with friends on Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Parkway Baptist Church and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Littrell, Tony Chatman, Wendell Spears, Greg Spears, Ryan Spears, Tim Spears, Cheyenne McNeese and Judge Jim T. Hamilton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerome (Judy) Whitaker, Doug (Sara) Whitaker, Brian (Stephanie) Whitaker and all the “Meece Hood” family of Kentucky, Sissy White, Sandy McClain, Paula Richardson, Rebecca Cook, Jimmy Lott, Frank Mayes, Wayne (Joyce) Dugger, Ricky (Terri) Massey, Mark Hayes Bobby (Angela) Floyd, Steve (Debbie) Harris, Jerry McNeese, Jerry (Virginia) Nichols, Wade (Katy) Matheny, Danny (Linda) Lassiter, Kenny Cummins, Tommy Nicholson, Chuck (Sherry) Howell, Curtis Haywood, Keith Wright, Danny McDonald, Deacons and Trustees of Parkway Baptist Church and all church members along with past and present employees of Stauffer through Solvay.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Building Fund of Parkway Baptist Church.
