Mrs. Winnie M. Johnson-Adkins Russell, 84, resident of School Street in Columbia, passed away Monday, August 29 surrounded by her loving family.
Born April 27, 1927 in Maury County, daughter of the late Dave and Beulah Cammuse Johnson. She was a homemaker, had worked at Storktown from the opening, Maury Manufacturing and ended with the closing at Weather Tamer, loved to go fishing, work in her garden, read, play cards with her granddaughters and watch the Dodgers baseball. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, who was friendly and outgoing.
Ms. Russell is survived by her children: David Adkins, Dennis Robin Adkins, Gail Danny Lay, Jean Scroggins, Betty Jo Adkins, Kathy Tommy Spicer and Sherry Adkins; grandchildren: Chris Adkins, Jaren Adkins, Rachel Adkins, Amy Odom, Dana Billy Ray Black, Jason April Lay, D.J. Haley Scroggins, Tina McDonald, Lori Holcomb and Doug Spicer; brother: Thomas "Too" Glenna Johnson; step-children: Jim Russell, Joe Russell, Jeff Russell and Beth Kirby; step-grandchildren: Kali Vance, Jeremy Vance, Melissa Russell, Michael Russell, Heather Russell, Teresa Benderman, Steven Gray, Joshua Gray, Leigh Gray, Sue Ann Russell, Kristy Russell, Elizabeth Russell, Shayla Russell, Jeff Russell Jr., and Tonya Kelly; great grandchildren: Makayla McDonald, Tanner McDonald, Jada Holcomb, Chase Lay, Wesley Black, Bryson Scroggins, Tristin Spicer and Davin Adkins; step-great grandchildren: Brianna Wood, Tyler Vance, Sara Owens and Harlin Owens; special friends: Doris and Belton Dickey and Lou Folsom; beloved pets: Peanut, Prissy and Sissy. She was preceded in death by: Rebert Adkins and Bob Russell; loving son: Kenny Russell; sister: Verna Mae Brown; brother: J.H. Johnson.
Funeral service for Ms. Russell will be conducted 10:00 Am Wednesday, August 31, 2011 in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Calvin Lunn officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Jason Lay. D.J. Scroggins, Jaren Adkins, Chris Adkins, Doug Spicer and Tanner McDonald.
