Winnie Baker

Winnie Emalyn Johnston Baker, age 106, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 in Florence, Alabama.
Winnie was born on April 7, 1916 to the late Loyd Iverson Johnston and Ollie Miriam Mayfield Johnston in Hohenwald, Tennessee.
Winnie was a fiercely independent woman. Even at the age of 95 she was determined to do things on her own, even mowing her lawn. Winnie was a skilled cook. Her family recalls all their favorite things she made including cooked apples, biscuits, and quite literally everything else. She was also a gifted quilter. She made so many beautiful quilts for herself and her family. She will be missed so much by her family.
Winnie is reunited with her parents; and brothers: Brown Arnold Johnston and James Iverson Johnston.
Winnie leaves behind her legacy in her son: Terry Hunter Baker (Rebecca Boike Baker); grandchildren: Terry Hunter Baker, Jr. (Ruth) and Christina Danielle Baker Fleming (Walter); greatgrandchildren: Andrew James Baker and Grace Frances Baker; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
A graveside service for Winnie will be held at Polk Memorial Gardens on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 1:00 pm with her grandson Hunter Baker officiating.
