Wilma Edna Burks, age 69, Mt. Pleasant resident, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at her residence.
Wilma was born July 14, 1947, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of the late Brown Chapman and Edna Watkins Chapman. She was the wife of the late James Burks. Wilma was an inspector for P.A. Medical. She had worked for Ford Motor Company in Michigan before moving back home to be close to family. Wilma was a hard worker who loved her family and always put everyone before herself. She was always babysitting everyone’s children and enjoyed inviting everyone to dinner, most often making dinner for her siblings. One of Wilma’s favorite pastimes was watching TV and eating ice cream. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her children, John (Kristen) Burks of Mt. Pleasant, Warren “Copperhead” Burks of Mt. Pleasant, and Jerry “Cheeseburger” (Heather) Burks, also of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Amber Burks, George Wood, Andrew Mosley, Cierra Burks, Alyssa Mosley, Shayne Burks and Jordyn Burks, and Tyson Voorhees,all of Mt. Pleasant; great-grandson Kota Staggs, both of Mt. Pleasant; her siblings, Grover Chapman, Brownie June Chapman, Janice Gail Franks, Rita Chavis, Linda Butler, Rachel Jennings, Sara Bryan, Valorie Esposito, Perry Chapman and Darryl Chapman. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Danny Chapman.
Funeral services for Wilma will be conducted Saturday, October 8, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Bro. Dickie Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Stewart, Daniel Stewart, Nathan Odom, Chucky White, Don Howard, George Wood and Dalton Dye.
