Willie Mae Mcwilliams

June 13, 1931 — December 29, 2015

Willie Mae Chatman McWilliams, age 84, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away into the arms of Jesus with her loving family surrounding her on Tuesday, December 29, 2015.

Willie Mae was born on June 13, 1931 in Maury County, Tennessee, one of eight children of Willie Bill and Ethel Norman Chatman. She married Riley Bill McWilliams on March 9, 1958 and they had two children together. Longer than her marriage though, was her relationship with her Lord. She was a dedicated member of the Halls Chapel Church of Christ for seventy years. However, it wasn’t just her name on a roll book, it was her everyday life that bespoke her faith. She was a loving and kind woman that would give you everything while doing without herself. She was always known for her cheerful attitude and especially for her smile.

Her family meant everything to her. She was utterly devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her motivation for living. She enjoyed cooking and taking care of everyone. One of her favorite things to do was to babysit for those she loved. In short – family was everything to her.

Willie Mae was a hard-working woman all her life. Besides her work as a wife, mother and homemaker, she enjoyed working at the Mt. Pleasant Phosphate Museum. This was just another example of her giving back to the community she loved so much.

Mrs. McWilliams is survived by her husband: Riley Bill McWilliams; children: Pam (Mike) Whitley and Pat (Spunk) Eastep, both of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren: Lauren (Taylor Counts) Eastep, DeWayne “Bubba” (Morgan Gordon) Eastep and Haley Eastep, all of Mt. Pleasant; great-grandchildren: Oakley Eastep, Laila Powell, Keaton Wiley and Adisyn Hendley; special nieces and nephews: Theresia (Randy) Workman, Rita (David) Gray, Jane (Darin) Kennedy, Duck (Sharon) Sharp, Cathy Thomas McNabb, Sandra (Roger) Hinson Ricky (Amanda) Grooms, Shelby Cates, Tony Chatman and Jimmy Chatman; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents: Willie Bill Chatman and Ethel Norman Chatman; and all seven of her siblings: Oman Chapman, Leston Chatman, Nolie Powell, John Chatman, Opal Sharp, Monroe Chatman and Dot Grooms.

Funeral services for Willie Mae will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee with David Stofel officiating. Entombment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will visit with friends on Thursday and Friday nights from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.
