Mr. Mr. William H. "Bill" Hyatt, age 85, a resident of Les Robinson Road in Columbia, passed away Monday at Maury Regional Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Hyatt will be conducted Thursday, June 11, at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. John Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in the Santa Fe Cemetery with military honors provided by the US Army and the US Marines.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
Born December 20, 1923 in Heard County, GA, he was the son of the late Amos and Mary Pearl Ely Hyatt and the husband of Mary Parham Hyatt. A graduate of Georgia Tech, he retired as a manager from U.S. Steel in Birmingham, AL. Bill and Mary taught ballroom dancing and they had a great passion for it. He attended Beech Croft Church of Christ. Bill was a very proud U.S. Marine staff sergeant, serving in the Central Pacific and the raids on Marshal Islands during the later part of WWII. He also served with the USS Oriskany, a unit of the U.S. Sixth Fleet in the Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean from May to Sept. of 1951 during the Korean conflict.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Pamela Stowell of Columbia, Donna Keith Kalman of Houston, TX and David Margie Hyatt of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren: Jeffery A. Stowell of Nashville, Michael Lee Stowell of San Francisco, CA, Amanda Kalman and Kathryn Kalman, both of Houston, TX, Emily Hyatt and Darcy Hyatt, both of Birmingham, AL; brothers: Bryant Hyatt of LaGrange, GA and Robert Hyatt of Roanoke, VA; sister: Martha Jane Allen of LaGrange, GA. He was preceded in death by a brother: Jewell Hyatt and a sister-in-law: Teddi Hyatt
