Mr. William Wayne Thomas, age 87, a resident of Edenburg Drive in Columbia, passed away Thursday, August 19 at Maury Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Thomas will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 22 in the chapel of the Williams Funeral Home of Columbia with Rev. Derik Hunter officiating. Entombment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Born September 8, 1922 in Bedford County, he was the son of the late Oscar Clarence and Lula Mae Harrison Thomas and the husband of Sidney Adams Thomas of Columbia, which they were married for over 64 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, the owner and operator of Wayne Thomas Sign Painting Company and had previously worked for Columbia Neon. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #31 with 50 years service and a member of Zion Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister: Carmine T. McNatt of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Malloy Cummins, Bob Hunt, Eddie Thomas, Bill Wells, Kyle Anderson, Wayne Chappell, Albert Chappell and Robin Lovett. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men?s Sunday School Class at Zion Presbyterian Church, employees of Sterling House, Ed Kirby, Nannie Jo Grissom, Jack and Neil Chism, Darlene Baxter, Hal Morgan, Dr. Moataz Toban, Dr. John Simmons and the nurses on the second floor step-down unit at Maury Regional Medical Center.
