William “Bill” Thompson, age 79, passed away at his home on Thursday, December 9, 2021, in Columbia, Tennessee.
Bill was born on November 2, 1942, in Bruceville, Indiana. He graduated in 1960 from Bruceville High School and served in the United States Army from 1961 until 1964. Bill enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and planting a large vegetable garden each year. He was dedicated to his wife, Marjorie Thompson, with whom he recently celebrated 55 years of marriage. Bill was retired from Essex Wire, a career that spanned 39 years between Vincennes, Indiana, and Franklin, Tennessee. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Marie (Dotson) Thompson; brother, Donald Thompson; and sisters, Beverly Hoeft, Carolyn Jewell, and Marilyn Fields.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie Snider Thompson; children, Jamie (Jerry) Cook and David (Tracy) Thompson; grandchildren, Justin Cook, Joshua Cook, Hannah Thompson, and Sarah Thompson; brothers, Jack (Jacqueline) Thompson, of Florida, and Ronald “Ronnie” (Susan) Thompson, of Indiana; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Monday, December 13, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Williams Funeral Home, 2517 Trotwood Avenue, Columbia, with Reverend Jeff Kane officiating. The family will visit with friends from 9:00 AM until the start of the service. Graveside will follow at Polk Memorial Mausoleum.
Active pallbearers will be Jack Thompson, Ronnie Thompson, David Thompson, Jerry Cook, Justin Cook, and Joshua Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be Hannah Thompson and Sarah Thompson.
