William "Ray" Staggs

William “Ray” Staggs, age 73, of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at his residence.

Ray was born on October 2, 1945, in Columbia, Tennessee to William Owen Staggs and Mary Ellen Chapman Staggs. He was the loving and devoted husband to Dorothy Hickman Staggs, since their marriage on June 18, 1990. Ray’s whole world was Dorothy until her passing on June 25, 2015. Ray served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He and Dorothy were charter members of Faith Community Church in Mt. Pleasant.

When Ray became “Papa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his world became even brighter. He loved them fiercely and enjoyed spending time with them. He always had a big smile for everyone and loved to share a laugh. His hobbies included watching historical films, military movies and westerns. He was known as a man of few words.

Ray is survived by his children: Chris (Brandi) Roland of Mt. Pleasant; Brad (Jennifer) Pugh of Mt. Pleasant, Timothy Beard of Clarksville, Rebecca (Jeff) Owens of Pulaski, and Dawn Lindsey of Mt. Pleasant; brother: David (Shelia) Staggs; his 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: William Owen Staggs and Mary Ellen Chapman Staggs; wife: Dorothy Staggs, brothers: Billy and Jimmy Staggs; and his nephew: Jimmy Staggs.

Funeral services for Ray will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with Bro. Frank Manning officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion, Post 19. The family will visit with friends on Monday, October 22 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.

Dylan Pugh, CJ Lindsey, Tim Goar, Bubba McKennon, Eddie McKennon, Trey Gann, Daniel McCrary and Lane McCrary will serve as pallbearers.
