Mr. William Douglas Pickle, age 74, passed away at his home in Columbia, Tennessee, after an extended illness on Saturday, April 20, 2013.
Mr. Pickle was born on December 23, 1938, to the late William Alton Pickle and the late Mildred Gibson Pickle in Columbia, Tennessee. Doug was a veteran of the United States Army. On January 26, 1974, he married the former Margaret Weible and they had two children together. Mr. Pickle was the owner of Doug’s Auto Trim in Columbia for 38 years and was well known in the community. He was a member of the American Legion. Additionally he was a member of 1st Assembly of God Church in Columbia and served as a member of their board for several years.
Mr. Pickle is survived by his wife: Margaret Weible Pickle; children: Kevin (Allison) Pickle and Katrina (Dan) Doty; grandchildren: Magnus Pickle, Remini Pickle, Braden Doty, Will Doty and Sam Doty; sister: Jean Tapscott; nephews: Dewayne Harris and Shane Harris; and his brother-in-law: Douglas Harris. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pickle is preceded in death by his sister: Wilma Harris.
Funeral services for Mr. Pickle will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the 1st Assembly of God Church in Columbia, with his son-in-law, Rev. Dan Doty and long-time minister and friend, Rev. Charles Blythe officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Mark with military honors being provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. The family will also visit with friends from one hour prior to the service time on Wednesday at the church.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
