William Orton

William Elvis Orton, age 87, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, Tennessee.

William was born July 21, 1928 in Centerville, Tennessee to the late Willie Urie Orton and the late Eva “Wiley” Orton. William was an entrepreneur at heart. Over the years he owned quite a few business ventures such as New to you Furniture, Columbia Bait and Tackle, Orton Auto Sales in Columbia. If he wasn’t working or starting another business he was fishing and if he wasn’t fishing, he was always doing something. He loved fishing especially cat fishing, and just being in the outdoors. Most of all he was a family man through and through. He loved his family dearly and worked hard for them. William will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

William is survived by his daughter: Kathey (Jim) Phelps of Columbia; sons: Terry Orton of Columbia and Stoney (Dianna) Orton of Union City, TN; grand sons: Roscoe (Amber) Williams of Murfreesboro, Mike (Jessica) Stewart of Columbia, and William (Kelli) Orton of Iowa; grand daughters: Amanda, Jessica, and Becky Orton of Iowa, and Darcy Orton of Union City, TN; great grand sons: Drake Williams, Alec Williams, Tristan Orton, Noah Brewer, and Lucius Love; great grand daughters: Tiana Orton and McKenzie Pressnel; step-grand children: Teresa Clayton, Brian Phelps, Kerry Triplitt, and Honey Blair; brother-in-law: Ray Gibson; sisters-in-law: Loretta Orton and Lennie Gibson; and special friend: Henrietta McKennon and family.

The family will receive friends Friday, January 29, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee. A celebration of life will be held Saturday January 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.
