William Newton Sexton

September 13, 1922 — December 2, 2005

Mr. William Newton Sexton, 83, a resident of Wall Street in Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, December 2, 2005 at Maury regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Sexton will be conducted Monday, December 5, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rick Points and Reverend William Owens officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 3:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Born in Giles County, he was the son of the late Bazzel H. and Susie Watkins Sexton and husband of Nettie C. Nance Sexton. He was a furnace operator for Mobil Chemicals, Stauffer, Occidental and Federal Copper. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army, a member of the American Legion for 53 years and a member of Spencer Hill Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Janet Wayne ?Buster? Vandiver of Mt. Pleasant; two sons, William Sexton of Columbia and Billy Donna Sexton of Mt. Pleasant; eight grandchildren, Jill Quillen of Athens, AL, Teri Sexton, Regina Rawson and Brandy Turner, all of Columbia, Daniel Sexton, Jared Ayers, Trenton Vandiver and Peyton Vandiver, all of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Edith Cothran of Mt. Pleasant. He was preceded in death by two brothers, A.J. Sexton and James Weatherford.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Sexton, Jared Ayers, Trenton Vandiver, Rusty Roberts, Ricky Cothran, Richard Cothran, Larry Nance and Jimmy Lott. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Craig, Dr. Bain and the Doctors and staff of CCU at Maury Regional Hospital.
