William Joseph Akins

Mr. William Joseph "Joe" Akins, age 69, a resident of Lexington Highway in Loretto, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2009, at Crockett Hospital in Lawrenceburg.
Funeral services for Mr. Akins will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. J.D. Brooks and Rev. William Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Pisgah Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 9:00 on Monday and from 4:00 – 9:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
The Lawrence County native was the son of the late Willard and Rosabelle Himes Akins and the widower of Lillie "Tooter" Howell Akins. Mr. Akins was retired from Coca-Cola. Pepsi Cola and had last worked for Office Dimensions Trailer Company in Hampshire as a cabinet maker.
Survivors include his children: Deborah Gail Larry Davis of Mt. Pleasant, Donna Lynn Ray of Hohenwald, Donnie Joe Akins of Hohenwald and Douglas Ray Lacy Akins of Hohenwald; Brothers: Nicholas Paul Vicki Johnson Akins of Columbia, Johnny Wayne Ellen Akins of Lewisburg, Samuel David Norma Akins of Culleoka and a sister: Vicki Pete Staggs of Mt. Pleasant; 18 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A special aunt and friend: Inez Thomas and special aunt: Nellie Cox. He was preceded in death by a brother: Kenneth O. "Popeye" Akins.
Pallbearers will be David Davis, W. Bryan Davis, Corey Davis, N. Kyle Davis, Jessie "Bubba" Vaughn, Jamey Vaughn, Austin Akins and Thomas J. Akins. Honorary pallbearers will be Hendley Edwards and all employees of Community First Bank of Mt. Pleasant and the Howell Family.
