Mr. William "Bill" Francis, Jr., died Friday, August 30, 2002 at his residence on Lawrence Street in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services for Mr. Francis will be conducted Monday, September 2, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Williams Mt. Pleasant Funeral Home with Reverend Ezell Rose officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors being provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post # 19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The Herrin, Illinois native was the son of the late Grover and Madge Loveless Francis. He was the husband of Annie L. Pinkleton Francis of Mt. Pleasant. He was retired from General Motors Corporation in Marion, Indiana as a tool and dye maker. He was a member of the Local Union #977 in which he served as committeeman, recording secretary, and recreational chairman. He coached little league baseball for the Rhone-Poulenc team in Mt. Pleasant and was a member of the South Side Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant. He was a member of the American Legion. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in which he was active in the Normandy Invasion.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Judy Jim Welch of Carmi, IL and Deborah Knowles of Mt. Pleasant, TN; five sons, Steve Sheila Francis of Indianapolis, IN, Michael Francis of Marion, IN, Tony Sherry Francis of Marion, IN, Jim June Francis of Carmi, IL, and Gary Lisa Cummins of Gas City, IN; thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; a sister, Margie Holderfield of Marion, IN. He was preceded in death by a brother, Randell Francis.
Pallbearers will be Michael Francis, Tony Francis, Steve Francis, Gary Cummins, Edwin Knowles, Owen Moore, and Jimmy Francis. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. John Worthman, Dr. C. Houston Jameson, III, Dr. Steven Woodley, Dr. Mark Messenger, employees of Columbia Oncology Associates, nurses and staff of the Maury Regional Hospital Oncology Department, special friend of the family, Vickey Johnson, and special nieces and nephews.
