William "Billy" Adam Scharrer

July 17, 1971 — August 12, 2014

William “Billy” Adam Scharrer, affectionately known as Coach Billy, age 43, of Columbia passed away on August 12, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Billy was born to William Scharrer and the late Jean A. Parson Scharrer on July 17, 1971 in Columbia, Tennessee. He grew up on the ball field playing baseball, football and softball, where he wound up coaching countless players over the years. Most of all, he passed his love of these sports to his own children, as they all three enjoy them as much as he did. He was a man of character that people admired both on the field and off, because he was the same everywhere he went. His love of coaching led him to a teaching position at Mt. Pleasant Middle School where his students loved him. He will always be remembered there for his smile, because he was literally, always smiling.

Billy loved fishing, camping and NASCAR, specifically Dale and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He also was a Notre Dame, Alabama and Vandy fan and was always ready to talk sports.

He was always willing to help anyone and never met a stranger. He enjoyed joking and giving everyone a hard time. If Billy picked at you, he liked you.

While all of these things are great qualities and attributes, family was most important. They remember that he was 100% devoted to everything that was important to him, and he always put them, along with the rest of his family first. He was a great father and role model and will be loved and missed by them always.

Coach Billy is survived by his children: Katelyn Brooke Scharrer, William Kurtis Scharrer and Konner Alexander Scharrer all of Columbia; the mother of his children: Kathy Lovell Scharrer; father: William Scharrer; brother: Wayne (Tammy) Scharrer; sister: Julie (Philip) Luman; nieces and nephews: Andrew (Kelley) Scharrer, Whitney Scharrer, Lillyann Scharrer; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his mother: Jean Scharrer; sister: Charlene Scharrer; several aunts, uncles and cousins including grandparents Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Parson and Mr. and Mrs. Chris Scharrer.
