Wendell Witherspoon

Mr. Wendell "Spoony" Witherspoon, Sr., age 55, resident of Raines Lane in Columbia, passed away Tuesday, July 27 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

The Maury County native was born October 14, 1954, son of the late Walter and Roberta Mosley Witherspoon. He was a heavy equipment operator for Civil Contractors in Franklin where he loved to go to work and operate his equipment, he loved to go to the car races with his grandson, Preston and enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. Mr. Witherspoon was baptized in the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his children: Jean Thomas Chambers of Winter Haven, FL and Wendell Witherspoon, Jr. of Clifton, TN; grandchildren: Preston and Ashton Chambers of Fl and Elijah Ray Witherspoon of Columbia; Vickie Witherspoon, the mother of his children and who took care of him the last days on this earth; special aunt & uncle: Ruby and Ernest Dawson of Culleoka; aunt: Maynell Walker of Columbia; ex mother-in-law: Ann Adams of Columbia; several cousins; friends: Tony McNeese, Donnie Carpenter, Mike Beard and all his co-workers at Civil Contractors. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Walter & Irene Witherspoon and Willie & Addie Mosley.

A memorial service for Mr. Witherspoon will be held Friday at 6:00 PM in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rick Points and Eddie Rogers officiating. The family will visit with friends from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
