Watson Albert “Sarge” Drane, age 93, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at his home in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee.
“Sarge” was born December 12, 1921 in Union Point, Georgia son of the late Alfonso Drane and the late Odessa Agatha Quill Drane. Watson had a very full military career with the United States Army. During Watson’s time in the Army he experienced 3 different conflicts. He served in World War II, the Korean War, and two tours of duty in Vietnam. While serving in Germany he survived a plane crash that took the lives of both the pilot and the co-pilot. Watson finished his military career as 1st Sargent decorated with a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star along with many other commendations. After “Sarge” finally retired from his noble military life he took up employment at Stauffer Chemical and the Mt. Pleasant Police Department. When he decided to actually retire for good he became an avid golfer and could often be found on the links of the Mount Pleasant country club, where he was a member and for years served as president. Watson served his country faithfully and during multiple deadly conflicts and remained steadfast. If you could say one thing about Watson, he was a servant of others and the world would be better if there more people like “Sarge.”
