Walter Fariss Grimes, age 91, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2021.
He will always be remembered as a generous, kindhearted, humorous man, who never met a stranger. He served two years in the military. He was known as the “Co-op man” and managed the Maury County Co-op for 42 years. He was also a dedicated member of the Lions Club for 40+ years. He was of Methodist faith and a member of Hampshire United Methodist Church for 60+ years.
He resided in Mt. Pleasant with his late wife of 65 years, Patsy Johnson Grimes. They had two children, Angela (Bobby) Floyd and Walter “Wally” (Nora) Grimes; three grandchildren: Kayla Floyd Newson, Anissa Rose Grimes, Ziva Claire Grimes; two great-grandchildren: Harper Grace Newson, and Bryce Carter Newson.
Fariss loved his family and had a great passion for animals. He was known for his talents in wood carving canes, knives, and antique cars, which are displayed at Mt. Pleasant Museum. He had also loved sketching birds, which was a talent he had not known he had until the last two years. Fariss was always willing to help someone in need and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Pallbearers: Walter Grimes Jr., Jimmy Lott, Tony Grimes, Carl Newson, Bobby Floyd, Tommy Wolaver, Bud Grimes, Landon Baker, and Bryce Newson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Service will follow starting at 11:00 a.m. with Heuston Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.
