Wallin “Wally” Howard Swanson, 80, of Columbia passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Wally was born on June 15, 1937 to the late Gust Swanson and Ellen Oman Swanson in Foster City, MI.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 4:00PM in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. The family will visit with friends starting at 3:00 PM until service time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that pet supplies/ food be donated to the local pet shelter in Wally’s name.
Wally retired from the UT Experiment Station in Spring Hill. After retirement he dabbled in plumbing and odd jobs to keep him occupied. He was an innately hard worker. He loved animals of all kinds but mostly his own dog and cat whom he spoiled. His family describes him as “funny grumpy”, his disposition being kind and having a generators nature. He was a member of the West End Baptist Church.
Wally is survived by his loving wife, Carol Peters Swanson of Columbia; Daughters, Joellen (Bruce) Mitchell of Michigan and Glenda (Ron) Monterruso of Alabama; Sons, David (Karen) Swanson of Tennessee, Greg (Renee) Swanson of Tennessee and Kurt (Suzanne) Swanson of Tennessee; 13 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren; Sister, Alice Tipton of Arizona along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Wally is preceded in death by his baby son and 4 siblings.
