Walker Clay Harris

January 21, 1920 — July 12, 2007

Mr. Walker Clay Harris, 87, resident of Wiley Hollow Rd. in Culleoka, passed away Thursday, July 12 at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Harris will be conducted Saturday, July 14 at 10:00 am in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Ricky Clay and Larry Benderman officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 to 9:00 pm at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Arch and Eura Walker Harris and husband of the late Mary Gidcomb Harris and he was raised by his step-mother, the late Ida White Harris. He retired in 1996 from the State Forestry Division as a Forestry Aide I and manned the fire tower at Southport for 40 years. Every year, he would dress as Smokey the Bear at the fair. He graduated from Culleoka High School in 1939. He was a member of the Stiversville Church of Christ for more than 60 years. His passion for life was woodworking and playing the guitar.

He is survived by a daughter, Mary Sue Eddie Dalton of Columbia; a son, Thomas Clay Beverly Harris of Columbia; four grandchildren, Timothy Clay Dana Harris, Kimberly Dawn Brandon Adams, Thomas Allen Andrea Harris, Jeffery Todd Grace Dalton, all of Columbia; great grandchildren, Dylana Harris, Hayden Harris, Peyton Harris, Justin Potts, Hunter Adams, Alana Harris, Hunter Harris and Rebecca Dalton, all of Columbia.

Pallbearers will be Todd Dalton, Tim Harris, Allen Harris, Kevin Benderman, Brandon Adams, Joe Bell and Mike Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Peach, Calvin Hodge, Men of the Stiversville Church of Christ and all past and present members of the State Forestry Division.

The family would like to specially thank Dr. Reams Powers, Dr. Shawn Gentry, Dr. Belinda Bart, Dr. Jonathan Petttit and all the nurses on the 6th floor orthopedics for their care and compassion during his illness.
