Mr. Volter Ray ?Buck? Hall, age 88, a long time Columbia resident was born March 4, 1923 in Jackson, MS, the son of the late William F. and Zetta Robinson Hall. He was the husband of 57 years of Frances Gowan Hall.
Buck was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, and was the recipient of the Victory Medal, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster and five Bronze Stars along with the Good Conduct Medal. He was a carpenter by trade and had worked for a number of years with Haury and Smith Contractors. He loved working in and raising a vegetable garden. Buck was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Frances, include one son, Ray Hall of Columbia; two sisters, Frances Howell and Helen Wayne Pagel, both of Columbia and a special friend Tamara Escue of Lawrenceburg along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Buck was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Mr. Hall passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home with Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.
The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 4:00 ? 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Hill, Michael Hill, Tony Sullivan, Wayne Gowan, Billy Gowan and Glenn Sharpton. Honorary pallbearers will be Wendell Dodson, Bobby Osborne, Cameron Escue and all of the friends at Ray?s Hair Styling.
