Mrs. Mary Vivian Murrell Tomlin, former co-owner of Bicycle Joe?s and a resident of Sowell Mill Pike of Columbia passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at St. Joseph Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

Funeral services for Mrs. Tomlin will be conducted Saturday, August 21, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home of Columbia with Reverend Earl Davis and Reverend Murray Thomas Culberson officiating. Burial will be the Arlington Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Hickman County native was the daughter of the late Vivian C. and Pearl Crews Murrell. She was the wife of Joe E. ?Bicycle Joe? Tomlin. She attended Hay Long High School and graduated Columbia Central High School. Mrs. Tomlin had a teaching certificate at MTSU and a PhD in Education from Peabody College. She was former Special Ed teacher at Whitthorne, CMA and King?s Daughters schools. After retirement, she tutored many young and older students. She was also a Real Estate Agent with Seabrook?s Association out of Jackson, Tennessee. Mrs. Tomlin was a member of the Godwin Chappell United Methodist Church and was a ordained Methodist Lay Speaker. She sang with the Sunshine Gospel Group with husband, Joe and dear friend, Murray Thomas Culberson and taught Bible School on Wednesday nights.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Jessie Mullins of Atlanta, GA and Jill Andrews of Columbia, TN; a granddaughter, Shannon Andrews of Columbia, TN; a step daughter, Jolene Tony Hobbs of Chattanooga, TN; three step grandchildren, Alicia Hobbs, Amber Hobbs and Chad Hobbs all of Chattanooga, TN; a niece, Connie John Greenfield of Pulaski, TN; five nephews, Vernon Murrell, Jesse Murrell, Charles Murrell, Mike Murrell and Paul Varner; several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Murrell of Hendersonville and James Murrell of Columbia, TN; a sister, Dorothy Varner of Columbia TN.

Pallbearers will be David Hill, Scott Hill, Matthew Hill, Wesley Derryberry, Jim Bartley, Andy Jenkis, Ryan Jenkis, Calvin Jenkis, Chad Hobbs and Chris Graham.
Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Godwin Chappell United Methodist Church.
