Virginia Derryberry Carpenter

August 18, 1909 — January 22, 2007

Virginia Derryberry Carpenter was born August 18, 1909 in the Fountain Heights area of Maury County.

She was married to James Luther Carpenter who died in 1968. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, David Fetner.

She was the oldest of eight children of the late Emmett and Mary C. Derryberry. She was a member of the Church of Christ, having been baptized in the Duck River in 1923. She lived in Neapolis until moving to her daughter?s home in 2003. Mrs. Carpenter worked at various jobs until the age of 76. In earlier years she was known for her garden and lovely flowers.

Graveside services for Mrs. Carpenter will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. in Williamson Memorial Gardens in Franklin.

The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 4:00 ? 7:00 P.M. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.

She is survived by sons: Ralph Mildred Gilliam of Murfreesboro, Dennison Margaret Gilliam of Fairview and James Carpenter of Spring Hill; one daughter: Janice Fetner of Nashville; grandchildren, Denny Gilliam of Murfreesboro, Gwen Martindale of Nashville, Gina Turner of Columbia and Susan Smith of Hilton Head, SC; several great and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Grace Bolton and Mildred Lunn of Columbia and brother, Paul Derryberry of Ft. Myers, Fl.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.
