Mr. Vernon R. King, age 94, former resident of Harris St. in Columbia, passed away on Thursday, January 10, at NHC/Hillview Nursing Home.
Graveside service for Mr. King will be conducted Saturday January 12, at 10:00 A.M. at Polk Memorial Gardens with John Vaughan officiating. Williams Funeral Home in Columbia will be in charge of the arrangements.
The family will visit with friends following the service at the Graymere Church of Christ Senior Facility.
The Lauderdale County, Alabama native was the son of the late William A. King and Maggie Cottles King and the husband of Louise Harlan King of Columbia. He was a farmer and retired heavy equipment operator for Columbia Slag. Mr. King enjoyed breeding and training beagles and was a member of Graymere Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter: Jean Walter Hurt of Columbia; a grandson, Al Rachel Hurt of Mt. Pleasant; great-grandchildren: Phoebe Hurt and Maggie Hurt both of Mt. Pleasant; a sister: Virta King of Rogersville, AL; two nieces and two nephews out of town.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Ussery, Ralph Judd, Edwin Derryberry, Buford Allen, Joe Tom Modrall, Charles Brewer, Howard Brown, George Brazzelton, Tommy Pilkinton, Joe Robertson, Joel Ozwalt and Harold Davis.
