Verba J. Cothran, age 82, of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019 at Mt. Pleasant Health and Rehab.
Verba was born on January 11, 1937, in Lewis County, Tennessee to Elbert and Nelsie Carroll Cothran. She was a member of Main Street Church of Christ, and enjoyed putting her faith into action by going on mission trips as a nurse, designing and preparing bulletin boards at church, and helping others. She loved her church family very much. She adored her grandchild and great-grandchild and loved spending as much time as possible with them. She loved to sew, cross-stitch and crochet and would spend every winter making clothes for those who were less fortunate. She over-extended herself in service to others, even when she wasn’t really able to do so. She enjoyed bowling every Thursday. On Fridays, she enjoyed attending various churches for their congregational singing – sometimes she would drive for hours to find one of these singings. Her career also showed the caring person that she was, serving others as a nurse for over forty years.
Verba is survived by her loving daughter: Carman Holder of Mt. Pleasant; grandson: Cody (Mary Beth Barnett) Sims; great-granddaughter: Layla Sims; siblings: Mary Gibson, Judy Caughron, and Eddie Cothran, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert Cothran and Nelsie Cothran; and brother, James Cothran.
