Velma H. Trimble

August 17, 1923 — June 6, 2014

Velma H. Trimble, age 90, resident of the Bear Creek Pike community for 60 years, passed away Friday, June 6, 2014 at NHC Hillview. Velma was born August 17, 1923 to the late David Taylor Hargrove and the late Sarah Brown Hargrove at her family farm in the Rally Hill Community.

In life, Velma worked very hard to pursue her dream of becoming an independent educated member of her family. During her early adulthood, with assistance from her family, she graduated in 1942 from Spring Hill High School. She then attended Nashville Business College where she graduated and pursued her career in Nashville. After these accomplishments, Velma insisted to her family that she come home to care for her ailing mother. Her caring, compassionate, and devoted heart led her to care for other members of her family later in her life.

On March 14, 1948, Velma’s life changed as she married the love of her life, Joe Lee Trimble, Jr. Together the two raised four children. Making a home for her family was her number one priority. Along with her love, her children will cherish the memories of her excellent cooking, creamed corn, and “14 day sweet pickles.” Her legacy as a gardener, seamstress, Christian, devoted wife and mother will forever be remembered by her most prized possessions, her grandchildren.

Velma’s family will gather with friends Monday, June 9, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted at Berea Church of Christ, where she was a faithful member, Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Bro. Tom Holland and Bro. Carl May officiating. Burial will follow in the Hargrove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Garner, James Trimble, John Trimble, Andrew Trimble, Julian Sharp, Doug Brown, and Bobby Sands. Honorary pallbearers will be Armour Thomas, Wayne Hardison, and the Men of Berea Church of Christ.

Velma’s children would like to express their sincere thanks to the nursing staff of NHC Hillview, Dr. Couch, and Karen Perry, FNP, for their loving care.

Mrs. Velma is survived by her children, Theresa (Don) Garner of Valdosta, GA, Darrell (Deena) Trimble of Columbia, and Joe Lee (Lavonia) Trimble III of Spring Hill; grandchildren, Jonathan (Malissa) Garner of Valdosta, GA, Ashli (Justin) Rogers of Henderson, TN, James (Melissa) Trimble of Knoxville, TN, John (Katie) Trimble of Corvallis, OR, Amanda Trimble of Nashville, TN, Jennifer, Sarah Grace, and Andrew Trimble of Spring Hill, TN; four great grandchildren, Caleb and Chelsea Rogers, Jacob and Jarrett Garner. She is preceded in death by her daughter Flora T. Collins in 1972, and also by her husband Joe Lee Trimble, Jr., in 1998.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Hargrove Family Cemetery Fund.
