Velma Potts Thompson

Mrs. Velma Griggs Potts Thompson, 73, a resident of Fly Road in the Santa Fe Community, died Saturday, September 21, 2002 at NHC of Franklin.

Funeral services for Mrs. Thompson will be conducted Tuesday, September 24, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Williams Columbia Funeral Home with Reverend Homer Dee Kelley and Reverend Stewart Bachmann officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 until service time at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Lavina Jane Harris Griggs. She was the widow of Arvis Thompson and was first married to the late Wilburn Lex Potts.
She was a retired RN in Maury and Williamson counties and was a self-employed hairdresser for many years. She was a member of the Santa Fe Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Karan Wiley of Williamsport; two sons, Wilford D. Carolyn Potts of Brentwood and Keith C. Charlotte Potts of the Water Valley Community; two sisters, Esther Herman Johnson of Nashville and her twin, Thelma Hill of Santa Fe; three brothers, McKinley Opal Griggs of Nashville, Rulen Ollie Mae Griggs of Columbia, and Carmack Griggs of Donelson; Eight grandchildren, Anthony Lindsey, James Lindsey, Steven Wiley, Elizabeth Potts, David Potts, Tina Potts, Josh Potts, and Marissa Potts; three great grandchildren, Christopher Lindsey, Hailey Ann Lindsey, and Erin Page Wiley; a sister-in-law, Jewel Griggs of the Bethel Community; two nieces, Hazel Montgomery of the Water Valley Community and Dorothy Hubbell of Columbia; a nephew, Wesley McCandless of Santa Fe.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
