Mrs. Valerie Marie Smyklo Ram, 83, died Monday, September 20, 2004 at the residence she shared with her daughter, Mrs. Candace William Wade, on Stoneybrook Road in Columbia
A memorial service for Mrs. Ram will be conducted Friday, September 24, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at their residence at 318 Stoneybrook Road with Gloria Watts officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the residence. Williams Funeral Home in Columbia is in charge of the arrangements.
The Erie, Pennsylvania native was the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Blanch Musual Smyklo. She worked in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania during World War II where she met Air Force Lieutenant Michael Ram, who preceded her in death. Having moved to the Los Angeles, California area after the war, they lived in Encino, California from 1954 until 1984. She worked in animation during the 1970?s and 80?s for Grant/Ray/Lawrence, dePatie-Freling, and Spungbuggy animation studios. She was a member of the Catholic Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Denise Phillipa Gottlieb and husband Sam of Hawaii and Candace Andrea Wade and husband William of Columbia, TN; She was beloved ?Nana? to Hillary; a sister, Eleanor ?Norrie? Dowling of Hawaii; a brother, Alex Smyklo of Hawaii; three children by love, Kim Patterson Baker of Los Angeles, CA, Penelope Langley of Columbia, TN, and John David Fraley of Franklin, TN.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Anne Plonski, Betty King, and Sally Will; four brothers, Anthony ?Monk? Smyklo, Henry ?Hank? Smyklo, ?Sonny? Smyklo, and Edward ?Teddy? Smyklo.
