Tony Salmela

August 5, 1930 — January 15, 2006

Mr. Louis William ?Tony? Salmela, 75, a resident of Polk Lane in Columbia and former longtime resident of Denver, CO, died Sunday, January 15, 2006 at his home.

Graveside services for Mr. Salmela will be conducted Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the Kidd Cemetery in Lawrence County with Rick Points officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Tennessee National Guard. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.

Born in Minnesota, he was the son of the late Albert Raski and Ella Munt Bishop Salmela and husband of the late Deane Harris Salmela. He was owner and operator of Mt. Pleasant Taxi Company, former café and tavern entrepreneur in middle Tennessee and a tremendous chef. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed restoring old cars and loved the water. He was a Purple Heart recipient and a paratrooper in the US Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Robert Wayne Wells of Brentwood; two grandchildren, James Ross Wells and Jeremiah Wells, both of Brentwood; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Steve Grooms, Larry Grooms, Wayne Wells, Ross Wells and Asa Freeman, and Bill Frost.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Cumberland Heights Recovery Center, Tony Salmela Trust Fund, P.O. Box 90727, Nashville, TN 37209.
