Tommie Myrtle Rogers Britton

April 13, 1917 — January 11, 2008

Mrs. Tommie Myrtle Rogers Britton, widow of Rev. Frank Britton and a resident of Pleasantwood Drive in Mt. Pleasant, passed away at Hidden Acres Nursing Home on Friday, January 11.

Funeral services for Mrs. Britton will be conducted Monday, January 14, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Bruce Peltier and Richard Tate officiating. Burial will follow in the McClain Cemetery

The family will visit with friends Monday from 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.

Born in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Franklin and Nina Jones Rogers. She was educated in the Summertown Elementary schools and Baxter Seminary High school, where she graduated with honors. She attended Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, TN and Columbia State Community College.

She and her husband labored in the Baptist Church work in East Tennessee and were parents and teachers in the Baptist Children’s homes in Franklin and Chattanooga. She was employed in Child Care Services in Columbia, built and operated a day care center. After her retirement, she volunteered in Hohenwald Elementary Schools, past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Senior Citizens and her church work. She was a member of the New Song Baptist Church. Her hobbies include crafts, writing poetry, caring for her cat, Chelsy and most important, her bible study.

She is survived by a sister, Nell Scannella of Mt. Pleasant; nephews, Joe Roger Pam Scannella of Knoxville, Bill Margaret Scannella of Pulaski and Stanley Rogers of Mt. Pleasant; a niece, Cordelia Donnie Harris of Mt. Pleasant; many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Charlie Rogers, Robert Rogers and William C. Rogers; 2 sisters, Hester Brown and Edith Myers.

Pallbearers will be members of the Adult Sunday School Class of New Song Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark and Debbie Melton, staff of Hidden Acres Nursing Home, Dr. Reams Powers and family members.
