Thomas "Tommy" Porter Smith, Jr.

Mr. Thomas “Tommy” Porter Smith, Jr., age 73, of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away at Southern Tennessee Regional Healthcare System in Lawrenceburg on Friday, December 5, 2014.

Tommy was born on September 12, 1941, in Columbia, Tennessee to Thomas Porter Smith, Sr. and Pearl Brooks Smith. He was married to Alma Allen Smith. He was a member of Main Street Baptist Church in Ethridge, Tennessee.

Tommy was known as “Pap” by many of his friends at Triple C Metals. He was a very hard worker and was a self-employed carpenter, having built many barns in Maury County from sawmill lumber. He was supportive and dependable. Tommy’s step-sons said, “If it wasn’t for Tommy, I don’t know what we would have done, taking care of momma.”

Tommy is survived by his step-sons: Wayne (Judy) Chunn and David (Lynn) Chunn of Summertown, Winston (Tammy) Chunn of New Johnsonville, Timmy (Patsy) Mobbs of Lewisburg and Kenny Mobbs of Mt. Pleasant; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings: Al Smith of Mt. Pleasant and Ruth Shelby of Hendersonville; and several nieces and nephews. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas Porter Smith, Sr. and Pearl Brooks Smith, his beloved wife: Alma Allen Smith; and brother: Charles R. Smith.

Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Interment will follow at the Barnesville Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Monday, December 8, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and again 2 hours prior to the funeral service on Tuesday.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Dr. John Brown and Dr. Lewis will be honorary pallbearers.
