Thomas J. Reid

March 25, 1930 — August 29, 2012

Mr. Thomas J. Reid, 82 passed away on August 29, 2012 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on March 25, 1930 in Appleton, Wisconsin, a son of the late Samuel and Grace Reid. He was also preceded in death by his step-grandmother, Marjorie Reid and his older sister Peg Hubbard.

Thomas graduated from high school in Winona, Minnesota in 1948. Two years after graduation, he enlisted in the Army and proudly served his country in the Korean War. After the war he was honorably discharged having achieved the rank of Corporal. Shortly thereafter, he began working as an electrical engineer for ITT, where he enjoyed a thirty year career before retirement.

Thomas was a lifelong Christian, serving as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church of Milan, Tennessee and was a longtime member of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church of Columbia, Tennessee in his later years. He also was very involved with the Maury Baptist Disaster Relief Group, serving wherever he could to aid those who had flood, fire, tornado or other disasters affect them.

His family's fondest memories are of his love of singing. His daughter Sherri remembers many rides in the pick-up truck singing hymns together after church. Dee, his wife's most precious memory are of her brother taking Thomas through the nursing home and him singing hymns to the residents. The residents absolutely loved those times as well. His favorite hymn was I Am Satisfied With Jesus, the chorus of which shows his abiding hope in Jesus: I am satisfied, I am satisfied, I am satisfied with Jesus, but the question comes to me, as I think of Calvary, is my Master satisfied with me?

Mr. Reid is survived by his wife of 25 years, Dee Reid of Columbia; brothers Dan and Ted Reid; daughter and son-in-law Sherri and Gary Edwards of Dalton, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Amy Reid of Germantown, Wisconsin; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Mimi Reid of Petuluma, California; grandchildren: Adrienne, Stephanie and Aaron Reid and the mother of his children: Faye B. Reid of Nashville, Tennessee; and step-children: Faye Danny Green and Keith Alisa Bailey.
