As a boy he helped with farming on several Maury County farms. He lived on Circle Drive in Mt. Pleasant for 52 years. In 1950 he married Margaret McNeece Norman. He attributes his long life due to her excellent cooking. He attended school at Mynders, Porters and Ettaton. Howard served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 in the Korean War. He and his brother, Blackie, owned and operated Norman’s Body Shop and Wrecker Service for 46 years, having learned the trade from Willie Goodman and Jody Brown.

He was very witty and loved to tell jokes. He enjoyed watching Nascar races, Westerns, and Judge Judy. He also enjoyed The Price is Right. You could find him in his recliner, sometimes with the TV on but just listening to music, usually country or bluegrass. If he wasn’t watching TV, he was sitting on the front porch. He was a member of Sandy Hook Church of Christ, the Mt. Pleasant Lions Club and The American Legion. He truly loved being a former Maury County Constable for District 10.
