Thomas L. Fitzgerald

Thomas L. Fitzgerald, born on September 25, 1948, to the late James Colby Fitzgerald and Lecie Diane Ferguson, departed this world on September 25, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of love and service that touched the hearts of many.

A proud graduate of Spring Hill High School, Thomas served his country with honor in the United States Army. His devotion extended to Lawrence Grove Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a Deacon and volunteered as a dedicated driver for the church's children's bus. His passion for nurturing young souls on the path of the Lord was evident in his involvement in Vacation Bible School.

Thomas possessed a heartwarming sense of humor and a big personality that never failed to bring a smile to the faces of those around him. His love for gardening, especially growing vegetables, was matched only by his love for savoring delicious meals. He created cherished memories with his family through fishing trips, cookouts, card games, and horseshoe games by the creek.

Thomas is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Fitzgerald, their daughter Penny (Nathan) Popplewell, grandchildren Ethan Burres, Aiden Popplewell, Alexis Butts, stepdaughter Becky Butts, siblings Sara Nance, Edwards Fitzgerald, sister-in-law Shirley Harrison, and several nieces and nephews. He joins his departed siblings Mary Deen, Nolene Horner, Carl Fitzgerald, Jack Fitzgerald, and James Fitzgerald, as well as his parents-in-law, Albert and Ethel Spears, in eternal rest.

A funeral service to celebrate Thomas's life will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with the service commencing at 1:00 PM. Thomas will find his final resting place at Rose Hill Cemetery, where Military Honors will be bestowed upon him in gratitude for his dedicated service to his nation. Thomas's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
