Thomas Edward Stites

Mr. Thomas Edward Stites Sr., 64, a resident of Rainer Drive in Columbia, died Wednesday May 13, 2003 at Vanderbilt Medical Center.

The funeral mass for Mr. Stites will be recited Saturday, May 17, 2003 at 11:00 AM at Saint Catherine Catholic Church with Father Patrick Connor officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. and Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M., with a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. at the Williams Columbia Funeral Home.

The Waukegan Illinois native was the son of the late William A. and Julia Fleming Stites, and the husband of Shirley Talley Stites. Mr. Stites is a retired industrial engineer from Saturn and was also a two year President of the Maury County Gun Club. He was a longtime member of Saint Catherine Catholic Church and joyfully sang in the choir.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Stites is survived by a step-mother, Caroline Stites of Tempe, Arizona; three sons, Thomas Carolyn Stites Jr. of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, David Stites of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Christopher Julianne Stites of Smyrna, TN; two Daughters, Jeanne Gene Sandefur of Prospect Heights, Illinois and Julia C.K. Cartwright of Culleoka; a brother, Raymond Stites Sr. of Seminary, Mississippi; Seven Grandsons, Kevin Stites, Michael Stites, Joshua Wolff and Zachary Sandefur, all of Illinois, Christopher Stites of Smyrna, TN, Jacob Briggs and Cameron Cartwright of Culleoka, TN; and three granddaughters, Samantha Sandefur of Illinois, Alison Stites of Smyrna, TN.; Natalie Cartwright of Culleoka, TN. and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Stites is preceded in death by a brother, William J. Stites.

Pallbearers for Mr. Stites will be Raymond Stites Sr., Thomas Stites Jr., David Stites, Christopher Stites, Joshua Wolff, Gene Sandefur and C.K. Cartwright.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Maury County Gun Club, Mark Eberts, Jim Eberts and Joe Perko.

Memorial may be made to Saint Catherine Catholic Church in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
