Stephen “Tubby” Powell, 35 years young, a resident of Mt. Pleasant, passed away suddenly Sunday May 11th at Maury Regional Medical Center.
“Tubby” as he was so well known was born October 5, 1978 to Sue Powell and the late Leroy Powell in Mt. Pleasant, TN. Tubby married his wife, Allison Cole Powell in 2004. He wore many labels such as coach, golfer, baseball player, a man that just enjoyed life. While he had so many labels the one that meant the most was Daddy. Anyone that knew him would have told you that one thing that changed his life the most was the birth of his son, Cole. Tubby was by far a devoted father, who loved his son. Besides being a devoted family man he was quoted as simply being “incredible to be around.” “He was an awesome dude!”
Tubby is survived by his sweet son, Cole Jackson Powell, His wife, Allison Cole Powell, His mother, Sue Powell of Mt. Pleasant, TN; His brother, Michael (Kim) Powell of Hohenwald; His nephew, Preston Powell; Special Friends, Rick and Megan Chatman; His mother-in-law, Patti M. Cole; His father-in-law, Tony Cole; His grandparents-in-law, Dalton (Ann) Cole. Many special aunts, uncles and cousins also survive Tubby.
Tubby is preceded in death by his father, Leroy Powell, his grandparents, Harvey and Pearl Powell, and Walter and Alberta Runions, grandparents-in-law, Alfred (Dora Jean) McCanless, and uncle, James E. “Pearl” Powell.
We will celebrate the life of the man that would literally give you the shirt off his back Thursday May 15, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Bro. Dalton Cole and Rev. Bob Mullenix will officiate the service. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., also in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery.
Pallbearers for Tubby will be Cole Powell, Michael Powell, Rick Chatman, Roy Fuller, Jeremy Finley, Drew Massey, Ricky Duberry, Bill Carroll Jr., and Andrew Scharrer. Honorary Pallbearers will be Preston Powell, Tubby’s closest friends, Members of the Mt. Pleasant Country Club, Players and Coaches of the 7-8 year old Bypass Market team, Members of the Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church, his poker friends, and The Carroll Family, as well as The Massey, The Hay, Rettinger and Gum Families.
