Stephen Layne Calvert

June 7, 1961 — March 12, 2020

Stephen Layne Calvert, age 58, passed away on March 12, 2020 at his home in Athens, Alabama, after a short battle with cancer.

Stephen was born June 7, 1961 in Columbia, Tennessee, to the late Cecil English Calvert and Evelyn Marie Dugger Calvert. He was of the Church of Christ faith. In his younger years he enjoyed playing cards. He watched Judge Judy everyday on TV. He was known for telling jokes and making everyone laugh. He loved music, dancing, and collecting coins. But more than anything he loved spending time with his family and his cat, Oscar.

He is survived by his son: Cameron (Amber) Calvert of Culleoka, Tennessee; sisters: Sharon “Sissy” Calvert of Athens, Alabama, Janice Calvert (James Macgeen) of Athens, Alabama, and Teresa (Glenn) Overstreet of Columbia, Tennesee; brothers: Gary (Barbara) Calvert of Summertown, Tennessee, and David “Day-Day” Calvert of Pall Mall, Tennessee; grandsons: Peyton Calvert and Brady Calvert; mother of his son: Beverly Calvert of Culleoka; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as his loving cat, Oscar. He was preceded in death by his parents: Cecil and Maire Calvert of Columbia, Tennessee.

Services will be Monday, March 16, 2020 at Williams Funeral Home, Mt Pleasant at 2:00 PM. Burial to follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. Family will visit with friends on Sunday, March, 15, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Pallbearers are: Casey Pilkinton, Patrick Russell, Gabriel Martinez, Cruz Martinez, Christian Martinez, Cameron Calvert, and Jeremy Grooms.
