Shelby C. Chatman

Mrs. Shelby Dickens Chatman, age 75, resident of the Southport Community in Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2011 at her residence.

Funeral services for Mrs. Chatman will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Danny Douglas officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

The Chatman Family will receive friends from 12 noon until service time at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Born on July 19, 1935 in Colbert County, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Garfield and Lula Bell Ledlow Dickens. She was the wife of John O. Chatman who preceded her in death on July 20, 1999. Mrs. Chatman had previously worked as a sewing machine operator at Mt. Pleasant Manufacturing. She was a member of Central Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant.

Mrs. Chatman is survived by a daughter, Theresia Randy Workman of Mt. Pleasant; her sisters, Lucille Osborne of Sheffield, AL and Alice Terry of Muscle Shoals, AL.; her brothers, Belton Doris Dickens and Roy Sue Dickens both of Columbia; grandchildren, Billy Wayne Ballinger, Tiffaney Jason Estes and Rainey Luke Fisher; and great-grandchildren, Michael Ballinger, Ashley Ballinger, Maylee Fisher, Jaxon Estes, Kynlee Fisher, Kayden Critchfield and Aubrey Ballinger. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Linda Eastep, Mildred Dickens and Janice Readey and a brother, Jimmy Dickens.

Pallbearers will be Jason Estes, Luke Fisher, Kerry Dickens, Belton Dickens, Jerry Thorton and Scott Dickens. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Central Church of Christ and Stan Dickens.
