Sharon Lynn (Green) Berry was born May 26, 1951 to the late Ruby Louise Green and Oscar William Green in Chicago, Illinois.
Sharon, an only child, moved to Clarksville, Tennessee in 1968 when she was 17-years-old and made it her permanent home.
During that time, she met Thomas O’dell Berry, Jr. while working at a local department store as a snack shop attendant. Thomas, who was Sharon’s supervisor, asked her on a date and the two kindled a great friendship and relationship. Three months later, they became husband and wife on October 19, 1969, in Clarksville.
From their union, they were blessed with two sons, Michael Thomas Berry and Elijah David Berry.
Sharon received a knock on her door one day and was offered a free home Bible study by two Jehovah’s Witnesses: Ann Meek and Muriel Bates. The teachings about Jesus’ life and what his sacrificial death meant for mankind intrigued her and led to her studying the Bible and dedicating her life to Jehovah God.
On March 9, 1975, she symbolized her dedication by water baptism at Hillsboro High School in Nashville, Tennessee. In July 1985, Tom was also baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The two have many friends in the North and East Clarksville congregations where they have attended faithfully for more than four decades.
Sharon was a homemaker and worked part-time outside the home. Her favorite activity was the field ministry and helping people learn about Jehovah God, Jesus Christ and the promises God’s Kingdom will bring to the Earth.
It was on these teachings her faith and courage were based throughout her life. She loved talking to people and teaching them about the Bible. She had the pleasure of having productive Bible students who progressed to baptism during her ministry. Sharon loved music, animals and enjoyed spending time with her family and many cherished friends at the Kingdom Hall.
Sharon finished running her race to the finish on July 25, 2019 at Spring Meadows Health Care Center in Clarksville.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 50 years: Thomas O. Berry, Jr., two sons: Michael T. Berry and wife, Dawn Marie, of Greenville, South Carolina, Elijah D. Berry and wife, Tiffany of Charlotte, North Carolina, and grandchildren: Jaylen, Jace, and Londyn.
Sharon was grateful and humbled by the loving support of the elders, her many spiritual friends and her loving family during her illness. She constantly expressed her gratitude for all the love, support and encouragement she received from the friends who she said were more like family. The phone calls, text messages, numerous visits, hugs, kisses, prayers, and words of encouragement to her, Tom, and her sons helped her through her toughest days
“I’m focused on the hope,” Sharon said. “Jehovah has given me so much courage. I look forward to a time when sickness and death will be done away with and I look forward to seeing all my friends and family again, very soon, in paradise.”
