Mrs. Sarah Frances Workman Witherow, age 87, longtime resident of the Rockdale community, passed away Friday, December 4, 2015 at West Meade Place in Nashville, Tennessee.
Sarah was born on December 9, 1927 in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee to William James Workman and Mary Ann Cook Workman. She was married to James Everette Witherow for 64 years, until his passing on April 28, 2010. In addition to being a wonderful homemaker wife and mother, Frances worked as a cosmetic salesperson at Revco Drugstore in Columbia for a number of years. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Sarah was a Christian and a member at Freedom Hill Bible Methodist Church in Ethridge.
Her family recalls that she was a woman who showed kindness to all and was a most humble soul. She was very caring of others and always had a positive outlook. She was known as a caretaker for many including those in her neighborhood, her brother, sister, neighbor and husband.
Sarah is survived by her son: James D. (Joy) Witherow of Hendersonville, Tennessee; grandson: Dr. Shane (Lindsie) Witherow of Nashville, Tennessee; great-grandson: Carter Shane Witherow of Nashville, Tennessee; special nieces: Martha Snyder and Lynn Sharpe and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: William James Workman and Mary Ann Cook Workman; husband: James Everette Witherow; brothers: W. J. Workman, Jr., Raymond Freeman Workman, Robert E. “Bob” Workman, Judge Edward T. Workman; sisters: Gladys W. Hoge, Era Adams; her special nephew: Tommy Workman; and her best friend: “Skippy”.
Funeral services for Mrs. Witherow will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Bro. William Snyder and Wesley McDonald officiating. Entombment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. also at the funeral home
Chris Cummins, Gilbert Clark, Charles Craig, Gene Craig, Leonard Workman and Bill Workman will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are past and present members of Freedom Hill Church in Ethridge, Tennessee, and the Staff of Health Care Center at West Meade Place in Nashville, Tennessee. The family would like to give thanks to Sarah’s neighbors and friends in the Rockdale community who showed their care and concern in so many ways, and special thanks to Chris and Jana Cummins and Alan and Brenda Podruchny for going above and beyond in their care of her in her last few years at home.
