Sarah Irene Duncan Long, age 82 of Columbia, passed away at her residence in Columbia, Tennessee on Tuesday, November 25, 2014.
Irene was born February 1, 1932 in Perry County to Hugh and Lura Curry Duncan. She married the love of her life, Mr. Austin Long, on September 16, 1950 and the two shared 64 wonderful years together. Irene worked at Publix shirt factory as a supervisor, as she was an outstanding seamstress. Irene was an active member at Highland Park Baptist Church. She loved cooking for her family and providing for them and others their favorite meals. Irene and Austin spent many days working together on projects and growing magnificent vegetable and flower gardens. She was a wonderful mother, outstanding caretaker, and a very loving devoted wife.
The family will visit with friends on Saturday, November 29, 2014 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, November 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Proctor officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Irene is survived by her loving husband, Austin Long; two children, Danny (Rhonda) Long of Spring Hill and Rhonda (Dennis) Smith of Bowling Green, Kentucky; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Barry) Carroll, Stacey Long, Chadwick Smith, and Emerald Smith; and many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Highland Park Baptist Church Building Fund.
