Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth "Chubby" Briggs Ray, age 76, a resident of Columbia, passed away on Monday, November 21, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Ray was born on September 9, 1935, in Lynnville, Tennessee to the late Marvin Roy and Sarah Etta Wells Briggs. She married Thomas Copeland Ray on September 18, 1953 and was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. Her family says that to know "Chubby" a day is to have known her forever. For example, she loved and was loved by her daughters-in-law as if they were actually her daughters. In addition she was a dedicated homemaker. She was a member of the Berea Church of Christ.
Additional survivors include her children: Thomas Briggs Dena Ray and Randy G. Pamela Ray; grandchildren: Thomas Stephen Jaymi Ray, Adam W. Amanda Ray, Brandon Lane Ray, Eric Glen Ray, Ashley Renee Bice and Korie Nicole Bice; great-grandchildren: Breanna Carol Ray, Khloe Grace Ray, E. J. Ray, A. J. Ray and Tristan Gage Ray; siblings: Ross Benita Briggs, Marietta J. C. Hobby, Janice Thomas Park and Frances Ann Briggs.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Wayne Pagel officiating. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
