Mrs. Sara Jane Harris Puckett, age 67, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Sara was born on November 7, 1947 in Midland, Michigan to Ralph J. Harris and Ellen Sackrider Harris Fitzpatrick. While in school she was involved in athletics, having played the position of center on the basketball team. Sara grew up to be a wonderful Christian woman, wife, mother and friend to many. She married Drury Minton Puckett, Jr. on December 1, 1973 and they had a wonderful life together.
Anyone who visited her home knew in a moment that they were welcome because of the gift of homemaking she possessed and demonstrated. Even during her final illness her concern was for the comfort of those who visited her, instead of herself.
Sara also loved gardening and spending time outside, especially loving daisies and hummingbirds. She was a Girl Scout leader, giving back to the community and pouring into the lives of young women. She was very involved in her church, and loved the Lord. She served as the church secretary for Jackson Heights Church of Christ where she was a member for many years. Prior to that, she worked in accounts receivable for Maury County Government.
While all of these activities, jobs and hobbies were important to her, none were as important to Sara as her family. Once her grandchildren came along they became her greatest passion. She felt her greatest accomplishment in life was that she had taught them to love God and how to get to go to heaven.
Mrs. Puckett is survived by her loving husband: Drury Minton Puckett, Jr. of Columbia; children: Drury Minton (Janice) Puckett, III of Virginia, Janell Faye (Bobby) Hollis, Michele Rene (Jake) Marbet, Sara Jane (Stewart) Parker and Nathan Daniel Puckett all of Columbia; beloved grandchildren: Stephanie Nicole Puckett, Tristan-Lukas Minton Puckett, Justin Puckett, Jaden Puckett, Amanda Petty, Samantha Petty, Owen Hollis, Roger Marbet, Emma Marbet, Morgan Parker and Brace Parker; great-grandson: Gabriel Smith; siblings: Mary Brown, Linda Briggs and Sharon Smith.
