Sandra L. "Sandy" Morris Griggs, age 55, resident of Milltown Road in Lewisburg, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Marshall Medical Center in Lewisburg.
Born July 18, 1955 in Rutherford County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Dorothy Mai Etheridge Swann of Columbia and the late Charles Morris. She was the wife of James L. "Jimmy" Griggs of Lewisburg. Sandra was a homemaker and was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She devoted her entire life to the care of her special needs son with patience and kindness. Her husband said she was one of the strongest women her family ever knew. Sandra was the rock of her family. If you called on her she was there for you. Her hobby in life was her family. Sandra was full of laughter and if you were in her presence, she would make you laugh as well.
In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by a son, James Edward "Jamie" Griggs of Lewisburg; a daughter, Mary Angela "Angie" Dale Griggs Adams of Mt. Pleasant; two granddaughters, Valorie Ann Adams and Robyn LaDayle Adams; three great-grandchildren, Alexis Dale Adams, Isaiah LaDeric Adams and Sophie Alonnah Adams; her brothers and sisters, Dianne Leroy Bradford, Patricia Pulley Pitts, Ricky Swann, Rhonda Jay Brown, Donald Morris, Larry Swann, Tammy Tim Jenkins, Lisa Jeff Poarch and Leigh Ann Hinson ; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Fred Swann, brother, Timothy Morris, nephew, Steven Pulley, brother-in-law, Donald Pulley and father-in-law, Hudson M. Griggs.
Funeral services for Sandra will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. J.O. Martin and Rev. Georgina Bearden officiating. Interment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.
The Griggs Family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Carey Bradford, Blake Jenkins, Brad Cashion, Christopher Brown, Jeff Poarch, Jay Brown, William Brown and Clinton Brown.
