Sandra "Sandy" Curtis

Sandra "Sandy" Curtis, a woman of devout faith and unwavering kindness, peacefully passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that touched countless lives. Born with a heart ready to love and a mind eager to learn, Sandy dedicated her life to lifting others up with her words and actions, embodying the example of Jesus Christ in every way.

Sandy was born November 26, 1939 in Florence Alabama to the late Herman and Hester Gandy. She answered the call to the Lord surrounded by family at home at the age of 84 on May 17, 2024.

Sandy was the beloved wife of Jack Curtis, with whom she shared 66 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a family rooted in love, faith, and mutual respect. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth and acceptance, where everyone felt welcome and valued.

Sandy was a brilliant and avid reader, known for her keen intellect and unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Her academic journey was marked by resilience and determination, culminating in a Master's degree in Library Science from Trevecca Nazarene University. Despite facing hardships, Sandy's passion for education and her commitment to children never wavered.

In her 70th decade, the Sandcastle Children’s Library in Summertown, TN, was founded, a testament to her enduring dedication to spreading the joy of reading and the power of education within her community. This passion project was more than a library; it was a beacon of hope and learning, reflecting Sandy's belief in the transformative power of knowledge.

Sandy's life was a continuous act of kindness and generosity. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel special, regardless of their background. Her words were always filled with compliments and love, and her actions were a testament to her compassionate spirit. She never sought recognition for her good deeds, believing that true kindness needed no acknowledgment.

While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate her extraordinary life and the indelible mark she left on our hearts. Sandy was an incredible person who will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but as we hold onto the hope of reuniting with her in the eternal embrace of Heaven.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at The Tabernacle Church 400 Monument Road Summertown, TN. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until service time at 6:00 p.m. Sandy will be interred privately at a later date.

She is survived by: her husband Jack Curtis of Summertown; her daughter: Jackie Entrekin (Tommy) of Ethridge, and her sons: Hal Curtis (Judy) of Summertown and Stan Curtis (Ranee) of Athens, Alabama.  Other survivors are her grandchildren: Justin Entrekin (Autumn) of Murfreesboro, Lindsay  McMasters (Cody) of Leoma,  Zachary Curtis (Sarah) & Rachel Webb (Tyler) of Athens, Alabama, Lucas Curtis of Summertown & Jacob Curtis of Chattanooga.  Her great-grandchildren: Lucy, Amelia, & Wyatt Curtis, Finley & Emersyn Webb, Sawyer & Sutton Entrekin, Audrey & Izzy Sisk. Siblings: Paul (Patricia) Gandy of Hohenwald, Charles (Kathy) Gandy of Mt. Pleasant, Connie Gandy of Nashville, and Jennifer Zimmerman of Mt. Juliet.
