Ruth “Mama Ruth” Irene McKennon of Mount Pleasant, Tennessee, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 28, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
A native of Maury County, Tennessee, Mama Ruth was born on July 10, 1932 to the late Raymond and Octavia Henson. Mama Ruth was a strong woman and a hard worker. Her heart of gold was evident in many ways; one of which was taking care of her family and loved ones. One of her greatest joys was to be able to cook for those she loved. She made sure that none of her family ever went without anything, especially food. She enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners and prepared them until her health prevented her from being able to do so. She loved her flowers and making quilts for her children, grandchildren and family. She loved to sit on the front porch with family and talk for hours. A strong Christian woman, she was a member of the Ebenezer Church and was a Sunday school teacher throughout her entire life. She was a longtime employee at Graymere Nursing Home and Maury Regional Hospital.
Mama Ruth is survived by her sons: Gary McKennon and Michael (Kathy) McKennon; daughter: Donna (Johnny) Potts and brother: Larry (Josephine) Henson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Johnnie “J.L.” McKennon; daughters: Barbara Heflin and Janice Gail McKennon; grandson: Adam Heflin; brothers: Jimmy Henson, Leon Henson and sisters: Carolyn Chatman and Joann Thompson.
Mama Ruth’s children would like to thank Kathy McKennon for her help during the last three months of their mother’s life.
