Russell Robert King

November 17, 1930 — July 14, 2009

Mr. Russell Robert King, age 78, a resident of College Grove, died Tuesday, July 14 at Williamson Medical Center in Franklin.

Funeral services for Mr. King will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Michael F. Gibson and Earl Hensel officiating. An honor guard will be provided by the Knights of Columbus of St. Catherine Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 3:00 until 9:00 pm at the funeral home.

Born in Detroit, MI, Russell was the son of the late Robert M. King and Hazel Russell. He was first married to Dorothy King who preceded him in death in 1994. Later he married Linda Mayfield King of College Grove. He retired from General Motors in MI, where in his early career he worked as a metal finisher and later went into shipping and receiving. Russell was an avid bowler, loved John Wayne movies and collectibles, reading westerns and watching western movies. His grandchildren looked forward going to his house and eating bacon waffles. He was very much involved with his wife in making cakes and catering for Linda's Cake Co. He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church and a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his children: Dan JoAnn King of Sterling Heights, MI, Patti Bill Ley of Spring Hill, Chuck Debbie King of Spring Hill, Mike Sledge of Franklin, Lisa Lowell Burke of Franklin, Tammy Bowling of Eagleville and Penny Eddie Barnes of Unionville; 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

One of Russell's grandsons, Cody Burke with the Wilson County Sheriff's Department, will be leading the funeral procession.

Pallbearers will be Lowell Burke, Larry Crowell, Will Burke, Randy Cook, Curtis King, Trey Barnes, Jeff Crowell, Christopher King, Doug Ley, Chris Crutcher, Eddie Barnes, Blaze Sledge and Carl Bowling.
