Rupert “Bill” Lawrence Carter, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at NHC Maury Regional in Columbia.

Bill was born on January 21, 1938 in Waverly, Tennessee to Paul Carter and Susie Winters Carter. He and Joyce Carter joined their lives in marriage on July 28, 1977 and built a good and loving life together. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and taught Sunday School there. He worked as a pipefitter and was a member of the Local 572. Bill loved fishing and was an avid college football fan. He enjoyed watching western movies and Pawn Star.

Survivors include his loving wife: Joyce Carter of Mt. Pleasant; children: Cindy Albury of Nashville, Lori (Mike) Bates of Waverly, Andy Carter of Dickson, Gina Foglia of Ashland City, Melea Wutze of Waverly, Tommy and Melissa Colvett of Mt. Pleasant, Pam (Barry) Smithmier of Cookville, and Maury (Stacy) Colvett of Mt. Pleasant; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister: Irene Hunter of Nashville and best fishing buddy: John Swaner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Marshal Carter, G. W. Carter, Brian Carter, James Carter, Edna Baggett and Mary Catherine Walters.

The family will celebrate Bill’s life with a private memorial service at a later date.
