Rulen Vester Griggs

June 7, 1923 — December 17, 2003

Mr. Rulen Vester Griggs, 80, retired from Union Carbide Corporation, died Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at his residence on Pleasant Drive in Columbia.

Funeral services for Mr. Griggs will be conducted, Saturday December 20, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Williams Columbia Funeral Home with Reverend Steve Swango and Reverend Robert Wells officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Joseph Leland and Lavinia Jane Harris Griggs. He was the husband of Ollie Mae Sutherland Parham Griggs of Columbia. He was a guitar player in Rockdale Ridgerunners Band. He was an avid coon hunter and a member of Loyal Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army during World War II.

In addition to his wife he is survived, by three daughters, Sandra Mike Smiley of Ashland City, TN, Carol Griggs of Santa Fe, TN and Lynn Mike Davis of Franklin, TN; two sisters, Ester Herman Johnson of Nashville, TN and Thelma Hill of Santa Fe, TN; two brothers, McKinley Griggs and Carmack Griggs both of Nashville, TN; two grandsons, Daylan Keshia Davis of Columbia, TN and Lathan Davis of Franklin, TN; a granddaughter Karla Davis of Franklin, TN; a great-grandson, Hunter Davis of Columbia, TN; two step-daughters, Shelia Carl Nelson of Spring Hill, TN and Phyllis Ralph Williams of Columbia, TN; two step-grandsons, Lance Pangle and Matthew Nelson both of Columbia, TN; three step-great-grandchildren, Andrew Pangle, Jacob Pangle and Hannah Pangle all of Columbia, TN; several nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Daylan Davis, Lathan Davis, Lance Pangle, Matthew Nelson, Mike Davis, Ralph Williams, Carl Nelson, Marion Hill and Andrew Pangle, members of Rockdale Ridgerunners Band, Mike Holden, Tony Ratliff, Dave Holbrook , Doug Carrington, Jerry Norman and Wayne Cates.
