Rufus W. Overstreet

October 15, 1922 — August 14, 2008

Rufus Overstreet, 85, a resident of Terrapin Branch Road in Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, August 14th at NHC/Hillview.

Funeral services for Mr. Overstreet will be conducted Sunday, August 17th, at 2:00 PM at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Bro. Dickey Lindsey and Bro. William Owen officiating. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer Community Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday and Saturday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Rufus E. and Angie Wiley Overstreet and the husband of Mary Angus Overstreet. He was a farmer and a member of Ebenezer Community Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Rufus Wayne Sherry Overstreet of Mt. Pleasant, Nelda Paul Riggins of Culleoka, Jennie Heflin of Mt. Pleasant, Kathy Overstreet of Shelbyville, Shirley David Ferguson of Butler, PA and Glenn Teresa Overstreet of Columbia; 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; a special niece: Beverly Douvier. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Peggy Overstreet.

Pallbearers will be Wendall Holder, Robert Overstreet, Greg Sanders, Bradley Boshers, Kevin Boshers, Jason Overstreet, Mark Overstreet and Dave Ferguson. Honorary pallbearers will be Henley Edwards, Dr. Bain, Dr. Couch, Tillman Knox, Larry Heflin, Orin Short, John O. Sharpton, employees of NHC/Hillview, friends of the Maury Farmers CO-OP and the 467th Battalion.
